Twitter Etiquette & List of Recommended Tools
Tue, Nov 3, 2009

Twitter is a social media site unlike any other. You can meet people from all over the world that you did not know, but who may have similar interest.
Twitter is a place to get to know people, share information and help one another. It is about creating value & education. It is not about selling your stuff.
If you consistently advertise or send people to lead capture pages then do not expect to attract quality people. In fact most of us on Twitter call these people spammers. Just remember that no one wants to be SOLD all the time. It is called Social Media for a reason.
Think of Twitter and social media as if you were at a party. What would you do, say, or act? I hope you would ask people questions about what they like, about their job or what is important to them ? Family, friends, hobbies, movies & more.
Twitter is truly an amazing place to learn and make new friends, but it can be a little overwhelming if you are new. I found some great tools to save you time & help you on Twitter.
There are over 250 Twitter tools and applications, so I decided to save you countless hours learning about all the different tools and share some that have been a big help for me in my video & list below.

Great post and great site! Following you on twitter has helped me learn a lot about it! I’m still a rookie though.
Thank you Stacy for the information.
Great info as always!!! You have helped me so much! Thanks and Happy New Year!!!
I am still learning new things about twitter everyday. Thanks for sharing the TweetMiner. I know that is going to save me some serious time.
I appreciate the feedback and comments ! : – )
From Twitter(katenasser):
Good post. I agree completely that tweets that mostly lead to squeeze pages etc… do not attract quality followers.
I add the following etiquette tips to this discussion:
——————————————————
a)If you disagree, do it in a respectful way. Every tweet you publish on Twitter can end up in a Google search. Once published, never forgotten.
b)When you view a URL via Twitter and don’t really like it, do not send a reply to the poster “Did you read this URL before you posted it?” This is rude. If you want to show your disagreement, Tweet a specific reply on how you disagree or why you don’t like it.
c)The “bio” field on your Twitter page as well as your tweets help people decide whether to follow you. One man labeled himself as a curmudgeon and then began to make sarcastic remarks about my posts. I blocked him.
d)Remember to do “thank yous” to those who retweet your tweets and list you in #FollowFriday and other generous acts.
e)There is a big debate over whether you must follow everyone who follows you. I vote “no”. Following is based on interest in what is tweeted. You certainly can follow everyone that follows you if that is what you want. Yet there is no obligation. I follow many not all.

Thank you for the useful summary of Twitter tools. You might want to add to your summary by pointing out that though some of these tools are free, some (like Twollo) are not, and some (Tweetlater, which is now called Social Oomph) have free and paid options.
Thanks for all the tips and information for those of us in need of honest help and good ethics!!! You are an inspiration to keep on going.
